A Picture of Need
The Good News of Jesus Christ changes lives.
Jesus taught us to speak out that Good News. He also taught us to Love our Neighbor as Ourselves. At Hope Ministries, we do these things in obedience to Jesus Christ our Lord. Jacob's calling from God was to minister the life of God to the hurting children of India. He feeds them, clothes them, houses them, and teaches them. Here is a glimpse of what that challenge looks like...
India is the second largest populated country in the world.
Approximately 850 million people live in India. It is a nation with many different cultures and languages. 14 major languages are in use throughout India, not to mention 1,658 native languages spoken within it.
India is a country with many different religions.
83% of the population is Hindu. 13% of the population is Moslem. Less than 3% of India is Christian. The rest include Buddhists, Jainists, and many more.
India has desperate poverty.
Hope Ministries began in the Southeast where devastating rains from hurricanes and tidal waves destroy many crops. Most of the people in these areas live in small thatched roof huts with mud floors and mud walls.
Rice is their main diet. There are virtually no industries. Those that have jobs receive $1.00 to $1.50 a day for a hard days work in a rice field. Since this work is seasonal, most people live in poverty during off-seasons.
