Jacob Beera was born in Southeast India to very poor parents. His family lived in extreme poverty and often were lacking food and clothing. Sometimes they had to go for two or three days without eating. As a teenager, Jacob contracted typhoid fever and was in a coma for 23 days.

One day an Evangelist came to their house and shared the Gospel with them. From then on, he would occassionally drop in. One day, he took notice of the difficulty that they were having in getting enough food to eat. He asked Jacob and his brother if they would like to live in a Christian Children's Home. They answered 'yes' and after obtaining their parents permission, he made all the arrangements for them to live in a children's home. Jacob was 13 at the time.

There, the staff told them about the Lord. A year later, he gave his life to Jesus. After Jacob became a Christian, his whole family came to know Jesus as their Lord and Saviour and worked for Him as a team for Christ. The same year God showed Jacob that He would send him to the U.S.A to help the orphaned, the poor, the widowed, and the evangelists in India. When he told his friends about his vision, they laughed and poked fun at him, saying "How could a poor child ever get to the U.S.?" Jacob and his family started praying for God to provide a way.

After ten years of praying and waiting, He opened a door for Jacob to come to the U.S. on July 1, 1977. Jacob worked with missionaries in Ohio at first. In 1978 Jacob went back to India to begin building a children's home. He married Jaya in that year. In 1979 God began to open doors for him to speak in churches, prayer groups, radio, and television. The Mission of Hope was founded that year. God began to use the Mission to provide Christian homes for needy children and support evangelists to spread the Word of God. On September 15, 1979 the first children's home opened in Mori, India.

On July 25, 1980 Jacob brought his wife to the U.S. They travel together and share their testimony and the burden that God laid on their hearts to help children and to preach the Gospel in India. Jacob and Jaya have gone back to India several times to help establish more missions and to preach the Word of God.
